project overview

Hosted by the Bethel School District, this skills center serves the high school students of 10 Pierce County school districts and supplements the career and technical program capacity of the county’s four, two-year community and technical colleges. Program and building flexibility was a priority to meet both current and future workforce training needs. The facility, which will be completed in four phases, will offer 10 career and technical programs during year one, with subsequent programs to be added as the project develops. Programs offered in Phase I include game design, criminal justice, medical careers, fire science and emergency services. Future programs include construction, business services, culinary arts, interior design, aerospace, biotechnology and more. The design presents a college campus model, with surrounding buildings creating a backdrop for the central courtyard. The exterior building forms, materials and detailing create a sense of permanence and tradition, as well as a distinctly Northwest architectural expression.
