Project Architect/Job Captain

  • Location:

    Tacoma, Portland or Bend

  • Salary:

BLRB Architects is looking for a creative, collaborative, communicative, detail-oriented, and experienced project architect/job captain to join our Tacoma, Portland, or Bend offices. This position is open to architecturally trained individuals with 3+ years of experience fulfilling the project architect or job captain role on public or commercial projects. While technical skills and experience are important, BLRB seeks team members who share and model our values of respect, service, responsiveness, integrity, and collaboration. If you don’t have all the specific skills listed but feel you would be an excellent fit for our firm and this position in other ways, we encourage you to apply.

We are looking for team members to help us provide exceptional client service, responsive designs, and excellent document sets for which we are known. We work in project teams, and this position will work directly with a Project Manager and project Principal and receive support from an enthusiastic and capable project team.

The person in this role will contribute to projects within our multi-family, education, or civic project focus areas. It is expected that this position will support BLRB’s multi-family project, but you will have opportunities to cross-train and experience other project types, including schools and civic facilities. Duties include, but are not limited to, feasibility and site studies, participation in the development of the project design, managing the production support for the project, coordination of consultants, QA/QC on project drawing sets, code reviews, and agency coordination.

BLRB has a robust professional development program, including on-the-job mentoring, quarterly check-ins with the office Principal, opportunities to learn new skills, and continuing education support. Currently, this position is a mix of remote and in-office as needed/desired. Our firm’s long-term (post-pandemic) remote work policy is designed to be very flexible, with only one standing day per week required in the office. We prefer any new employee to spend some extended time in the office through various levels of training, which may include travel to other office locations as current safety guidelines allow (time and travel costs paid), but we are willing to work with you to find a solution that fits your needs as well as ours.

Skills for this position include:

· Focus on client service and responsive communication.

· Excellent collaboration, with a proven ability to work successfully on teams.

· Excellent organization and time management.

· Proven experience leading and coordinating projects.

· Balance of design creativity and technical proficiency.

· Working knowledge of Revit specifically.

· Detail-oriented and thorough.

· Mastery of construction documents and project procedures.

· MS Office Suite.

· A bachelor’s degree or higher in Architecture

· Three years minimum of on-the-job project architect experience on commercial or public architecture projects; multi-family project experience a plus

· Registration in the NCARB AXP program; licensure preferred, not required.
