Overview

Breaking down scale

Delivery of a flexible, personalized learning environment for this 1,000- student middle school was the overarching theme for this replacement project.

Centralized Shared Spaces

The scale of the school is mitigated through a design that features two academic wings emanating from a central core housing the commons, music and theater programs, and connected via a ‘main street’ circulation spine to the gymnasium and athletic program areas.

Learning program integration

Core and applied learning programs are integrated throughout the academic wings and special education classrooms are interspersed throughout the learning environment, supporting broad student interaction. Multiple exterior spaces are directly accessible from the interior and support outdoor learning, social interaction and community use.

Flexibility of space

Learning technology including WiFi, Smart Walls, interactive white boards and projection systems, and acoustical enhancement strategies throughout enhance the flexibility and effectiveness of learning spaces.
