This free-standing aquatic center at Curtis High School provides a premier facility for instruction, intermural competition, and recreation for both students and the residents of the City of University Place. Our work included planning, design and construction administration for a comprehensive interior and exterior renovation and expansion of this existing free-standing aquatic center.
Key programmatic elements included pool and classroom learning spaces, adaptability of the facility for educational and athletic uses, race timing system and state-of-the-art pool systems, corrosion-resistant construction, indirect pool lighting to reduce glare, and slip resistant pool deck finishes.
The natatorium includes a new 25-yard pool with eight competition lanes; competition and practice water polo courses; a two-board diving well and mezzanine level spectator seating for 400.
Facility support elements included a public entry lobby with access controls; men’s and women’s locker and shower rooms and public restrooms; administration, first aid and pool manager’s offices; pool equipment storage and flexible use meeting and classroom space. The aquatic center hosts a robust community program during weekends and non-school hours.
