Drift Spa is a boutique day spa in Bend, Oregon offering a variety of self-care and topical cosmetic treatment services. For this project, it was the spa itself that got a cosmetic pick-me-up, with a transformation of its formerly dated 1970s era interior into a contemporary, relaxing oasis with a mid-century modern flavor.
Capitalizing on its high ceilings and infusion of daylight, the upper level was transformed to become the spa services area, and offers guests a sense of spaciousness and ease despite the small square footage.
Transformation of the lower level capitalized on what could have been seen as obstacles - low ceilings and limited natural light - to provide a sense of calm and privacy for the spa’s more intimate elements including the locker room, steam room, staff room and lounge.
Guest comfort and privacy were design drivers for this transformation. A formerly unused hallway behind the stairs was incorporated into the floor plan layout, providing a discrete route of travel between the locker and treatment rooms.
The rich color palette, adjustable lighting controls and attention to interior details all work together to create a soothing, luxurious place to regroup and refresh any time of the year.
