Overview

Honoring the Past While Revitalizing for the Future

Our clients wanted to restore the exterior of this c. 1916 two-story downtown brick building back to prominence, while also revitalizing the interior to accommodate a retail tenant on the first floor and office suites on the upper level. Using historic photographs of the building exterior taken shortly after its construction, our team developed a design that honored its history and original exterior expression.

Addressing street-level presence

Work on the exterior encompassed painting and integrating new wood framed windows to showcase the street level storefront.

Enhancing historic character

The original ornate brickwork across the parapet was painted in white to accent the historic character. A canvas awning and signage made from reclaimed wood were added to the facade renovation, recapturing the building’s street level presence.

Creating a memorable interior experience

The interior was stripped down and re-built for contemporary use and the mezzanine stairway was relocated to provide an interior signature focal point. The existing drop ceiling was removed and now 16-foot high volumes create an engaging and inspirational space for guests.
