Building On Success

Matching Academic Excellence with Facility Performance

With a large population of immigrant and refugee students, Foster High School is known as one of the most diverse comprehensive high schools in the nation. Students at the school hail from over 50 nations and speak dozens of different languages. The school community is also economically disadvantaged, with 70% of the students qualifying for free or reduced lunch. The school has historically suffered with test scores and graduation rates, but in recent years, the school has made a striking turnaround after major changes in the school's atmosphere and curriculum.

As the staff and administration worked to improve student performance, it became clear that the facility was also lacking. BLRB was selected for the modernization and addition to Foster High School to create a state-of-the-art learning facility to support the education of the diverse student population.

Completed in multiple phases on a dense, urban site, one of the primary goals was to secure the campus, connecting multiple separate buildings into one space. The team worked to improve visibility throughout the school and common areas, adding to a secure facility that supports active and passive supervision.
