Gresham High School has served as a multi-generational community hub and source of pride within the City of Gresham for decades. Citizen interest in its rehabilitation was high, and our work encompassed an extensive outreach and engagement process for both site-based and community stakeholders.

The design encompassed selective demolition, modernization and the integration of more than 200,000 SF of new learning space, a gymnasium, performing arts center and common use areas. Flexibility and adaptability of space, contemporary learning technology, energy conservation and sustainability underpinned the design.

Primary project goals, as established by our client and stakeholders, included provision of a safe, secure learning environment, healthy, student-centered interior environments and the provision of shared-use gathering and event spaces for both scholastic and community events.

Celebrating Community Pride

A New Gateway to the City

Architectural elements of the historic school were removed from the existing building and repurposed throughout to honor historic legacy and celebrate community character. The new performing arts center and its prominent facade is a distinguishing element of the transformation, creating a new signature entry into the City of Gresham.

All demolition, modernization and new construction was completed on an occupied campus in a 30-month construction schedule. Safety, security and construction cost-efficiency were primary considerations in development of the phasing approach and the project was developed and constructed via CM/GC delivery.
