Overview

Ensuring educational parity & equity

Our service encompassed the replacement of three elementary schools - Troutdale, Fairview and Wilkes - subsequent to the community’s passage of a $125 million capital school construction bond. Provision of facility and educational parity among the three schools, and a client emphasis on sustainability were overarching directives that informed design.

Collaborative, efficient design

Our design team worked with a broadly representative district planning committee to develop a prototype elementary design concept that was then organized and tailored in collaboration with each school-based design committee to fulfill the unique needs of each school’s site and community.

Flexible learning spaces

The interior of each school is organized by grade level into learning pods, breaking down the large scale and providing a sense of safety and belonging for students. An innovative “Fat L” classroom design facilitates ease of classroom supervision and provides exceptionally flexible learning spaces that accommodate multiple programs, learning activities and group sizes.

Tailored to honor unique community context

To personalize each school, our interior design team created original 14’ X 44’ murals for each entry lobby that depict the unique community elements, history and surrounding geography of each site.

Sustainability leadership

We worked with Energy Trust of Oregon to secure more than $300K in energy-efficiency grant funds. These are the first elementary schools in the Oregon to enroll in ETO’s Path to Net Zero program. They were developed and constructed concurrently on occupied sites, via CM/GC project delivery.
